QUARTER 2 NEWSLETTER – 2026

APRIL – MAY – JUNE

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD

When folks visit Linkside at Baymeadows and our neighborhood, they are always impressed with the beauty of our homes and the attractive grounds. We are a unique community and our homes are the best advertisement for future home buyers.

The Architectural Review Committee and Community Violations Hearing Committee have done a great job helping to ensure homes conform to our standards. These committee members “walk the neighborhood” from time to time to check on homes that may need (for example) painting, pressure washing, or yard repairs. Happily, homeowners are open to suggestions and make the necessary improvements. When necessary, letters are sent to homeowners with a suggested timeline for completion. The HOA covenants give our board authority to do these inspections so that our “special look” and character are maintained.

SUDOKU

The solution will be on the final page of this newsletter. Can you solve it???

PETS OF THE QUARTER | THE KOFOED DOGS

Ladybird (our Golden Retriever) is 1.5 years old, and is somewhat shy and reserved at first, but after a few pets or tail wags, she is your best friend. Lady enjoys swimming in the our slimy ponds, chasing geese, wrestling with Lenny, heckling Mr Christmas, and fetching a ball. If you see Lady walking around, remember to approach her quietly, and act like you’re not interested in her, she likes to be the first to approach people, and she will stick her nose in your hand for some pets when she is ready. She enjoys her memberships to Brewhound, and The Block/Kanine Social, and you can find her there daily. Her parents only go to dog friendly bars and restaurants so that Lady can tag along.

The Kofoeds also have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels named Loch, and Sassy. Loch (red and white) is 10 years old, is deaf, and likes to run away to find new girlfriends from time to time. Because he’s deaf he won’t hear you calling him, so if you catch him in the wild, bring him back to 9217 Augusta!!! Sassy (black and tan) is 6, is a princess, and sleeps on our pillows (yes, on our heads) each night. She likes to perch on top of the sofa, and go out back on our deck for a good sun bath. Sass never runs away, she just stays in our cul-de-sac and hang out with her parents while they do gardening.

THE UGLY DUCK

Most everyone has heard of the “ugly duckling” and Florida has its own ugly ducks. We here at Linkside at Baymeadows are visited by a group of these ducks daily. Due to its size and long neck, one may think it is a goose. Put upon further inspection, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to these strange looking birds.

These ducks are black and white, with a brownish greenish sheen, and very strange looking red, wart-like bumps on their face, and mow-hawk hair on top. Although it’s called a MUSCOVY DUCK, it is not technically a duck either. These birds have their own unique species. Its scientific name is Cairin moschata and is native to Mexico, and Central and South America. They are also very common in South Florida. It has also spread to many different countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and certain parts of Europe.

Each duck has its own appearance, the males are much larger, and the females usually don’t have a red face. The muscovy duck doesn’t quack, although the males sometimes huff or hiss. In fact, it doesn’t make much sound at all. Their lifespan in the wild is 8-10 years, but can live as long as 20 years. They are not monogamous, and have multiple partners. They sometimes breed with mallards, such offspring are “Mule Ducks” because they are sterile. Although our Muscovys are pretty docile, watch out, they do have a ridge in their beaks that can tear skin.
